Minimal Defined Media for Schizosaccharomyces pombe
Certified Thiamine-Free:
Ingredients for minimal medium formulations are mixed and powdered in a ball mill to ensure uniform particle size. Because of the importance of the nmt1 promoter in studies involving S. pombe, all minimal media are tested for the lack of thiamine (Vitamin B1) using a strain that has the nmt1 promoter upstream of lacZ. The cells are grown in media with and without B1 and the production of ß-galactosidase is measured by an ONPG color assay. A Certificate of Analysis indicating the lack of B1 is send with each purchase of minimal media.
