The FastRNA GREEN kit uses the FastPrep Instrument for rapid isolation of total RNA from plant and animal tissues or cells. The lysing matrix, which consists of zirconium particles, disrupts tissues and lyses cells during processing in the FastPrep. The presence of chaotropic reagents during lysis ensures immediate stabilization of RNA. The RNA is purified by organic extractions and precipitation with isopropanol. The kit contains enough reagents for 100 preps using 50-250 mg of tissue or 107 cells and yields 20-100 ug of total RNA. The entire process is completed in less than one hour.
The protocol, in brief:
a) phenol acid reagent (PAR);
b) chloroform/isoamyl alcohol (CIA);
c) DEPC-treated isopropanol (DIPS);
d) salt/ethanol solution (SEWS);
