MiniPrep Express Matrix

The MiniPrep Express Matrix provides the essential ingredient for making your "own kit" for doing large numbers of minipreps for rapid screening purposes that involve a restriction digest. You save by making the lysis reagents from the most commonly used methods, according to the formulas we provide. After lysis by the alkaline or boiling method (your choice), add 400 ml of the Miniprep Express Matrix to the cleared lysate; wash, and elute with water or TE. No RNase is required since most of the bacterial RNA does not bind to the matrix. Time to do 60 minipreps is about 2 hours. No phenol/chloroform extractions or alcohol concentrations are necessary.

The kit contains 520 ml of Miniprep Express Matrix, sufficient for 1250 preps, as well as a detailed instruction manual for preparing all solutions and doing preps. The cost is only pennies per prep.

Several examples of MiniPrep Express screens taken directly from a lab notebook are shown to illustrate the utility of the procedure. Plasmids were isolated and cut with enzymes before running on gels.
