MERmaid® Kit
For Rapid Isolation of OligoMERs from Gels and Solution


MERmaid employs a technology based on GENECLEAN®, but uses a different silica matrix known as GLASSFOG®  which binds smaller DNA fragments that are in the 10-200 bp range. This property makes the MERmaid® Kit the method of choice for purifying all types of double- and single-stranded DNA oligomers from solution or gels, e.g., small PCR products, primers, linkers, and other oligonucleotides.

The protocol is similar to that of GENECLEAN®:

  1. Add High Salt Binding Solution and GLASSFOG® to the solution or to the excised gel band and allow DNA to bind (5-10 minutes).
  2. Wash away non-bound reagents (5 minutes)
  3. Elute DNA from GLASSFOG® with water or TE (5 minutes)



Removal of Oligomers from Agrose

Purification of 12 and 14 base oligomers from 4% BioGel: Lanes 1 and 2 show 12 and 14 base oligomers before removal from the gel. Lanes 3 and 4 show the efficiency of recovery of 12 and 14 base oligomers from lanes 1 and 2. Estimated recovery is >75%.
