The FastPrep® System
The FastPrep® System: FP120 + FastDNA®/FastRNA® Kits

RNA Isolation:

A revolutionary method for isolation of undegraded RNA from virtually any source. The FastPrep® System employs a rapid vertical angular motion and combination of proprietary matrices and chaotropic reagents to simultaneously homogenize tissues, lyse cells, and stabilize RNA in seconds. This unique system was used to isolate high quality RNA from M. tuberculosis, S. pyogenes and S. aureus, three bacteria where isolation of RNA is very difficult by conventional methods. The FastPrep® System has been used to isolate RNA from more than 200 diverse sources including: bacteria, yeast, algae, botanical samples, insects, intact mammalian tissues, and cultured cells. In all cases, crude stable total RNA was obtained within 2 minutes and pure RNA was isolated in less than 30 minutes demonstrating wide application for this system.

DNA Isolation:

The use of the FastPrep® System has provided a means of DNA isolation from sources that are difficult or virtually impossible without the use of the rapid reciprocating motion of the FP120 Instrument. For example, PCRable DNA has been isolated from soil organisms, bone, hard or dried animal and plant tissue samples. The procedure is convenient and takes less than one hour to complete.
