FastDNA® Kit
Isolation of genomic DNA from plant and animal tissues and cells.

The FastDNA® Kit has been condensed to one inclusive kit. Researchers can now choose the lysing matrix to use for their individual applications. FastDNA® tubes are preloaded with matrix and users can select between 4 different matrix combinations to efficiently homogenize their samples. A convenient table in the protocol is provided that shows 5 different samples and the yield, OD260/280, DNA size, and gel photo obtained using each of the 4 different matrix combinations. The table and gel photos are used as a guide to help you to decide which matrix combination to use for your specific application.

The kit includes 3 different chaotropic buffers for the homogenization of specific samples: animal tissues and bacteria, plants, and yeast and fungi. After sample homogenization, DNA is purified with a GENECLEAN® procedure in 30 minutes. Resulting DNA is up to 25 kb in length and PCR ready.

The protocol in brief:

  1. Choose desired matrix combination; add sample and Cell Lysis (CLS) Solution, and process in the FastPrep® Instrument
  2. Centrifuge sample and transfer supernatant to a new tube.
  3. Add Binding Matrix and centrifuge. Wash Matrix with Salt/Ethanol Solution.
  4. Elute DNA in ultrapure water.
  5. DNA is ready for use.
