| Sterile 80% Glycerol | ||
|---|---|---|
| Bacteria and yeast cells can be stored for months to years in a liquid or solid form at -10°C to -15°C, or frozen at -20°C to -80°C in 20 - 50% glycerol. Glycerol is added to fresh cells from liquid or plate cultures and stored in the freezer. Fresh media cultures are inoculated by dipping into the frozen stock with a sterile loop or pipet. The sterile 80% glycerol solution offered below is less viscous and more convenient to pipet than 100% glycerol. | ||

| Agar-B (Molecular Biology Grade for Bacteria) | ||
|---|---|---|
| Agar-B is a bacteriological grade agar of the highest quality. After autoclaving, a solution of 1.5% Agar-B is a light amber color completely free of insoluble particulates. Medium agar plates poured with 1.5% Agar-B solidify into a haze-free, firm-surface gel perfect for inoculating, streaking, or replica plating cells in the manner commonly practiced by the molecular biologist. Agar-B was chosen as demonstrating superior qualities from among a large number of agar samples from different sources after testing for the ability to promote bacterial colony growth (colony diameter after 24 and 48 hours) and phage growth (plaque diameter and morphology of both M13 and Lambda bacteriophages). Agar-B is supplied in a light tan-colored, small granular form and is also packaged in capsules and pouches to fit the particular needs of the researcher. | ||

| 3-AT | ||
|---|---|---|
| 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole is a competitive inhibitor of the HIS3 gene product in yeast. When 3-AT is added to yeast media (1-10mM) it will limit histidine biosynthesis and growth; used in some two-hybrid screens to "fine tune" leaky expression of the HIS3 reporter gene. | ||
