For Labeling Proteins with Non-radioactive Isotopes in Expression Systems

As an industry leader in growth media formulation and production for molecular biology, BIO 101 announces the preview of an algae-based media line that is uniformly labeled with the stable isotopes, ¹³C, ¹⁵N, and/or D₂O. This media allows fully labeled proteins to be produced for research groups pursuing structural investigations. Studies using multi-dimensional NMR have commonly relied upon specific microbes and genetic expression systems for preparing stable isotope-labeled proteins. These investigations are time-consuming and costly, with the stable isotopes comprising the largest component of the material costs.

Understanding these needs BIO 101 has focused on producing a uniformly labeled product offering unique benefits and convenience for investigators in structural based drug design. The GREEN-B (bacterial) and GREEN-Y (yeast) media lines provide a simple, ready-to-use media which will allow the use of microorganisms and/or to employ certain protein expression systems not previously utilized.

Each media line, GREEN-B and GREEN-Y, has unlabeled counterparts allowing the investigator to assay specific needs in a cost effective manner, allowing evaluation and optimization prior to investing in the more expensive labeled media.
